Orem Community Hospital recently received national recognition and an award for its Children's Safety Fair in 1988.
A Touchstone Award was presented by the American Society for Hospital Marketing and Public Relations of the American Hospital Association. It is intended to recognize and honor the professional practice of hospital public relations.The fair was selected for honors from approximately 650 projects from hospitals across the United States. The hospital was given a Touchstone Award in the category of "Best Public Relations Project For a Small Hospital."
More than 3,000 people attended the free fair and 30 different events were held to teach children, blood typing, bicycle safety checks, a teddy bear clinic and water safety instruction. Participants were given a 64-page emergency guide, shoe I.D. tags and a variety of information on safety.
The Orem City fire and police departments and the Utah Highway Patrol also had several vehicles present for children to explore.
The Children's Safety Fair is now held annually in August.
