A Salt Lake man has admitted to being negligent in the hit-and-run traffic accident that killed a Salt Lake woman in August.

Luis J. Montelongo, 33, pleaded guilty to a class A misdemeanor charge of negligent homicide Tuesday before 3rd Circuit Judge Robin Reese. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge.Montelongo faces sentencing Nov. 30.

Driving about 60 mph, Montelongo ran a stop sign at 400 S. Goshen St. about 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 13 and slammed broadside into a car driven by Vera Cruz Angulo-Batalla, 31, who was killed.

The crash caused Angulo-Batalla's car to skid and strike a pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries.

A police officer located Montelongo, suffering a head injury, about two blocks away. Though Montelongo had been drinking, his blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit, according to court documents.
