Lebanon's acting speaker of the parliament has set the date and location for a presidential election, but sources close to Christian Army Chief Gen. Michel Aoun said it would take place only against his will.

Speaker Hussein Husseini, a Syrian-backed Shiite Moslem, called in a statement Wednesday for the legislative body to meet Saturday to elect a new president at a makeshift parliament building on the Green Line dividing Beirut.But a source close to Aoun told Reuters the meeting "would not take place," adding that Lebanon will witness "surprises in the next 48 hours to face Husseini's decision."
