Juanita Brooks, the prominent Utah historian who died recently, will be discussed by her biographer, Levi Peterson, at the meeting of the Utah Valley Chapter of the Utah State Historical Society on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Provo Public Library, 425 W. Center St.
Best known for her books on the Mountain Meadows massacre and John D. Lee, Brooks wrote and edited many volumes and lectured widely between 1950 and 1980. Peterson's lecture, "Juanita Brooks: Catalyst for Social Change," will emphasize how her work influenced both historical research and popular understanding of early Utah and Mormon history.Peterson, a professor of English at Weber State College, has written two award-winning collections of short stories and won the Evans Biography Award for 1987 for his book on "Juanita Brooks: Mormon Woman Historian."
The public is invited to the meeting.
