The 1989 Jazz at the Library Music Festival will be Saturday, Nov. 11, Thursday, Nov. 16, and Friday, Nov. 17, at Whitmore Library, 2197 E. 7000 South.
The first day of the free festival will feature six workshops from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. covering rhythm, improvisation, midi technology, music for radio and television commercials, composition and assembling a band. Workshop leaders will include percussionist Ken Breinholt, midi/recording consultants Matt Hepworth and Gary Nicholaides, Brigham Young University music professor Ray Smith, keyboardist and composer Dan Waldis and music instructor Jim Sorrels.On Nov. 16, Brigham Young University's "Synthesis" and Cottonwood High School's Jazz Band will perform in concert. On Nov. 17, the Copeland-Booth group will play. Both concerts start at 7 p.m.
The four-year-old festival is co-sponsored by the Salt Lake County Library System and the Salt Lake Jazz Society.
