Working in a professional basketball league with an average salary of $800,000, Utah Jazz players Karl Malone, Mike Brown and Eric Leckner figure they know something about economic development. Following practice at Westminster College Thursday, they participated in a news conference staged by Olympics for Utah to endorse Tuesday's referendum.

The three read from scripts prepared for them in something resembling a television commercial, but also answered a few questions besides Malone's joking that he and his teammates would try out for the U.S. bobsled team."All the facilities that are going to be built can be used again," was Malone's contention.

Leckner, a Los Angeles-area native, who remembers the 1984 Summer Games, said in response to Olympics opponents, "I don't know how they can say it won't promote economic growth."
