Trainer Dusty Janeke keeps an eye on Jean, a 2 1/2-ton pregnant elephant who is overdue at San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido, Calif. Doubts are growing about the health of the fetus as the Asian elephant enters her third year of pregnancy, apparently setting a world record for pachyderm gestation. Jean was due to give birth in August, after what would have been a a 22-month pregnancy. Veterinarians hope to line up a giant endoscope to inspect the fetus next week, but for now, will let nature take its course.
