John McEnroe beat Michael Chang Friday while Boris Becker was forced to a third-set tiebreaker for the second straight day before winning his quarterfinal match at the $1.3 million Paris Open.

McEnroe downed the 17-year-old French Open champion, 6-4, 6-3, to earn a semifinal meeting with Becker. The 21-year-old West German needed almost three hours to beat qualifier Wally Masur of Australia, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).In the other quarterfinals, second-seeded Stefan Edberg of Sweden eliminated Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland and Aaron Krickstein outlasted fellow American Brad Gilbert, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
