An increasing number of clubs and groups are voluntarily adopting stretches of Utah's highways and promising to keep them free of litter for at least two years, officials said.

The adopt-a-highway program allows groups to clean a section of highway at least two miles long in return for a sign on either end of the section giving them credit. The state provides orange vests, trash bags and safety training, and UDOT officials collect the filled bags. For information on how to adopt a highway, write to Adopt-A-Highway, UDOT, 4501 S. 2700 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84119.
