An electrical short in a machine used to filter ink mist from the air in a printing press area caused a brief fire Friday morning at the Newspaper Agency Corp. plant on Regent Street, between 100 and 200 South.

NAC uses the presses to print the Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune.Paul White, NAC physical facilities manager, said pressmen used fire extinguishers to douse the 7:55 a.m. blaze that sent smoke billowing into some other areas of the plant. Only the printing press area was evacuated. Printing of the newspaper proceeded as scheduled.
