A St. George man who left home Sunday on a woodcutting expedition was found Thursday wandering in a remote area near Lake Mead in northwestern Arizona, authorities said.

Robert Nanny Sr., 46, was found "right on the shores of Lake Mead at the Grand Wash area" by a Mohave County road maintenance worker, said Sgt. Rymal Hinton of the Washington County sheriff's office.Lake Mead is about 70 miles southwest of St. George.

Nanny was reported missing by his wife, and the Utah and Arizona Civil Air Patrols and ground teams had been searching dawn to dusk since then, Hinton said.

Nanny told officials he had become disoriented and then his truck ran out of gas. He said he spent Sunday night in the cab of the truck, Monday night in an abandoned mine and Tuesday and Wednesday nights in caves.

Hinton said Nanny arranged to have his mother in Kingman, Ariz., notified, and she called the Washington County sheriff's office about 12:45 p.m.

He said Nanny refused medical treatment.
