Brigham Young University has sold most of the 10,000 tickets it received for the 1989 Holiday Bowl, but BYU officials said Thursday they hope to acquire additional tickets for the Dec. 29 game.

The No. 15 Cougars meet 18th-ranked Penn State in the 12th annual Holiday Bowl, in San Diego, Calif."The school is hopeful of obtaining more tickets from other sources," said Larry Duffin, manager of the BYU Marriott Center Ticket Office.

Most of the tickets remaining from the university's initial allotment of 10,000 are located in the low rows on the field level, Duffin said. They will go on sale to the public Dec. 4.

Some of those seats, he said, "have limited visibility of the playing field."

"We are very excited we have sold so many tickets," Duffin said. "It seems fan interest has been especially high this year and is peaking for the Holiday Bowl."

Once the remaining tickets are sold, fans can put their names on a waiting list in the event more tickets become available, he said.

"We have feelers out in several places in order to obtain more tickets," Duffin said. "We are confident we will acquire an additional allotment."
