A local pharmacist has agreed to a license suspension for two years, following charges of unprofessional conduct and Medicaid fraud.
The stipulation and order between Mark M. Akagi and the state Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing comes more than one year after Akagi pleaded guilty to 3rd District Court charges of filing falsified claims for medical benefits.Akagi neither admits nor denies the division's allegations of unprofessional conduct and fraud, the stipulation said.
Documents issued by the state say Akagi filed Medicaid claims for specified amounts of prescription drugs, but actually dispensed a lesser amount. Also pleading guilty to the same false-claim charges in state court was pharmacist Dale D. Bain, owner of Southwood Medical Pharmacy where Akagi worked as manager.
A petition calling for Bain's license has been issued by the division, but the matter has yet to be resolved.
