A federal panel said Monday that Yellowstone National Park and its surroundings are a natural treasure that should be better protected.

The Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee, consisting of National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service officials, issued a draft report after a three-year study.The panel called for preservation of the 11.7 million-acre ecosystem, the wildlife, and the dominant tourism industry in and around Yellowstone in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.
