SHARE S.L. RECEIVES GRANT TO ENLIST SPORTS STARS IN DRUG FIGHT

Salt Lake City has been awarded a $25,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help the Boys and Girls Club conduct an anti-drug program using local sports stars, Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, said Wednesday.

The program will target 237 youths living in four public housing projects to help them avoid drugs by participating in sports programs, according to HUD documents.Sports stars expected to participate include Karl Malone and Thurl Bailey of the Utah Jazz, members of the Salt Lake Trappers baseball team and athletes from the University of Utah, HUD documents said.

The Boys and Girls Club of Salt Lake City provided $5,406 in matching funds for the grant.
