Rod Foster hit two free throws with nine seconds left to lift Athletes in Action to an 85-83 victory over Brigham Young in an exhibition game Wednesday night.
It was AIA's seventh win of the season against 21 losses.BYU Coach Roger Reid used the game to give his bench players experience and no Cougar starter played in the contest, which did not count on the Western Athletic Conference team's record (8-1).
With AIA leading 77-75 at the 3:12 mark, Foster canned a 3-pointer to up the lead to five.
In the final minute, AIA hit five of six free throws to seal the victory.
BYU trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half and overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 68 before AIA pulled away.
Howard Wright led AIA with 19 points. Foster added 17 and Calvin Duncan and Lorenzo Romar added 16 each.
For BYU, Kirk Davidson scored 17 points, Mark Durrant added 15 and Scott Moon had 14.
BYU returns to action Dec. 21 against Northwestern in the Marriott Center. The Cougars then travel to Berkeley to play California Dec. 23. They have no games during the Christmas holidays, returning to action Jan. 4.
