A Taylorsville man has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from an Oct. 5 auto-pedestrian accident that killed an elementary school student in West Valley City.

Leonard Scott Neff, 31, denied accusations of running a red light and driving too fast for conditions. He faces a Feb. 2 pretrial hearing before Justice of the Peace Dan K. Armstrong.Neff is accused of running into 9-year-old Shannon Kinder while the Taylorsville youngster was crossing 4700 South at 3200 West on her way to Harry S. Truman Elementary School.

The child's death has sparked a movement by the PTA and parents in the area to have a skywalk built over 4700 South. Since the accident, flashing lights have been installed and a 20-mph speed zone has been established around the busy intersection.
