SHARE MANTI SIGNS CONTRACT FOR POLICE SERVICES

In a move designed to save the city money, Manti has contracted with Sanpete County to take over law enforcement responsibilities within the city limits.

The contract, effective Jan. 1, 1990, provides that Manti will pay Sanpete Co. $80,000 annually for law enforcement. The $80,000 will be payable in quarterly installments of $20,000 each. The county will purchase the city's police equipment, including vehicles, at their appraised value.The contract further provides that Sanpete County will employ the city's two certified police officers as deputy sheriffs.

City Councilman Max Call said the arrangement is expected to save Manti around $20,000 in law enforcement costs annually.
