A reputed gang member was acquitted Wednesday of charges he shot to death five teenagers at a 1984 birthday party in the single bloodiest gang attack in Los Angeles history.

Fred "Fat Fred" Knight, 22, was found not guilty of five counts of first-degree murder following a six-month trial and five days of deliberations by a Superior Court jury.He was also acquitted of special circumstance allegations, including multiple murders, that would have qualified him for a possible death sentence.

Another reputed gang member, Keith "Ase Kapone" Fudge, 23, was convicted of the murders in August 1987 and sentenced to death.
