SHARE MOVIE ACADEMY WILL HONOR JAPAN’S TOP FILMMAKER

Akira Kurosawa, Japan's leading filmmaker, will receive an honorary award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on March 26.

The academy's board of governors voted the award to Kurosawa "for his cinematic accomplishments that have inspired, delighted, enriched and entertained worldwide audiences and influenced filmmakers throughout the world."Kurosowa, 79, was the director of "Rashomon," which won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1951. He also won an Academy Award nomination in 1985 for best director for "Ran."
