A Kearns man who pleaded no contest to two second-degree felony sex offenses began serving two consecutive prison sentences Friday.

Dale Gloyd Garrett, 33, appeared before 3rd District Judge David Young, who ordered Garrett to serve one to 15 years each on charges of burglary and forcible sexual assault. The defendant must also pay a $2,500 fine.Garrett was originally charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping - all first-degree felonies - in a May 21 incident in which a woman, 31, was sexually assaulted in her Midvale apartment and was then forced to leave her home with the assailant.

The victim called 911, which transferred the call to Midvale police dispatch, which sent a patrol car to the wrong address.

After she was released by her attacker, however, the woman was able to get a license plate number, which led to Garrett's arrest.

Garrett was subsequently charged with three more first-degree felonies in connection with a May 18 sexual assault of a 23-year-old South Salt Lake woman. Those charges were dismissed in September when Garrett pleaded no contest to charges in connection with the May 21 assault.
