An American tourist and his Australian companion appeared in court here Tuesday after customs officers found them wearing girdles holding 7,500 tablets of the designer drug Ecstasy.

Marq Ainsley, 32, from California, and 40-year-old Eva Graves from Sydney were remanded in custody.Customs officers found the drugs, with an estimated street value of $260,000 in girdles worn by the pair when they arrived on a flight from San Francisco on Christmas Day.

Earlier this year Australian customs officers found an E-type Jaguar sports car being shipped from the United States with 160,000 Ecstasy tablets worth about $5.6 million welded into the bodywork.
