The Utah State Tax Commission recently announced the appointments of a new community relations director and a new deputy director of the Motor Vehicle Division.

Former Deseret News reporter Janice J. Perry has replaced Lee Shaw as spokesman for the Tax Commission. Shaw resigned earlier this year to enter an Episcopal seminary.Perry came to the commission from the Utah Arts Council, where she held the position of public information officer and co-chaired the first annual Governor's Awards in the Arts.

She has also been the editor of The Park Record newspaper in Park City and worked for both United Press International and The Associated Press in Utah as well as a Long Beach, Calif., newspaper.

Rick Leimbach, who has been employed by the Tax Commission for 13 years, was promoted to deputy director of the agency's Motor Vehicle Division. He had been deputy director of the Operations Division.

Leimbach started in the Operations Division as an assistant director and before that worked in the Tax Commission's Data Processing and Auditing divisions.

His boss, Executive Director Clyde Nichols Jr., praised him for running the Operations Division efficiently and said the Tax Commission has "faith that he will find ways to improve service and shorten lines for those registering their vehicles and vessels."
