A Salt Lake man faces sentencing Jan. 8 after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of his wife.

In a hearing before 3rd District Judge Leonard Russon, Darwin Lee Thompson, 65, admitted he recklessly caused the death of Beverly Thompson, who was shot with a shotgun in the couple's home, 1062 Signora Drive, on Feb. 12.Thompson told police he had wielded the gun to kill himself and had asked his wife to shoot him, but as he raised it from his lap, it accidentally discharged, the bullet striking his wife in the chest.

Manslaughter is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
