The Hug-A-Bear program in the Davis County Sheriff's Office recently got a boost with a donation of teddy bears from the Telephone Pioneers of America.

The bears are carried by deputies and paramedics and given to comfort and establish communication with children encountered in accidents and other high stress situations. The Telephone Pioneers of America is a service organization of volunteers with at least 15 years of service with US WEST. In addition to the Hug-A-Bear program, the Pioneers support the Children's Museum in Salt Lake City and Camp Kostopolous, a summer camp for handicapped children.

For its Hug-A-Bear program the telephone group depends on donations of scrap material and cloth to make the bears and donated time to sew them together.
