A hiker who got separated from her family on Mount Olympus Wednesday afternoon was found safe about 12:40 a.m. Thursday by the Salt Lake Sheriff's Office search and rescue team.

Marla West, 21, 1751 Siesta Drive, Salt Lake, was hiking with other members of her family when she became separated. The family was to meet at their car about 3 p.m., but she did not arrive.The search and rescue team was called in about 7:40 p.m. with about 20 searchers and five dogs scouring an area between 4800 South and 6200 South.

Sheriff's Lt. Glen Bailess said the woman was found walking down the mountain near Tolcate Canyon about 12:40 a.m. She was in good condition and had suffered no injuries or ill effects.

Bailess said the woman apparently hiked above the fog level but became disoriented when she tried to return down the mountain. He said she walked around until she finally was able to get her bearings again and headed back down the mountain.
