Strata VISION 3d, a computer-aided illustration software package produced by Strata Inc., based in St. George, has been nominated for the Editors' Choice Award by the editors of MacUser Magazine.

Known in the industry as "Eddies," the awards are presented annually by the magazine to the year's best products engineered to operate with the Apple Macintosh personal computers.Strata VISION 3d was nominated in the category of "Best Three-Dimensional Graphics Software." More than 125 products have been nominated in 42 categories with the presentation ceremony Jan. 25 in San Francisco.

"Naturally, we're very excited," said company president Ken Bringhurst. "It's quite an honor for a small startup company in St. George to get a nomination that any big Silicon Valley firm would love to have."

He said Strata VISION 3d was the company's first product and it's been on the market for only four months. He said the magazine has a circulation of 300,000 and is widely read by personal and corporate Apple Macintosh computer users.

Objects and scenes can be created within Strata VISION 3d or imported from other computer graphics programs. Rendering tools within the package allow users to add special effects such as unlimited light sources, highlights, shadows, reflections, transparency and refraction with the images rivaling that of photographs.
