More than eight tons of "kid" will descend on Santa's knees in a matter of minutes Saturday, Dec. 9. Big Brothers/Big Sisters will hold its annual Holiday Celebration Party for the hundreds of children who participate in the program.
The children come from single-parent families, and 70 percent of them are in dire straits and will not have presents under a Christmas tree. But every child will get at least one present and a stuffed stocking from Santa Claus during the party, 1-3 p.m. at St. Therese's Church Hall, 122 S. Allen St., Midvale. The children will be accompanied by their "bigs" - adult volunteers carefully screened by the agency and matched one-on-one. Bigs and littles spend three to five hours a week together.
In addition to Santa, the party will include pinatas, a buffet and caroling.
