Mark Anthony Lopez, the sailor who was critically burned Oct. 29 in a fiery accident on deck of a Navy air force carrier, was scheduled to arrive home in Utah Monday.

Lopez will be on a 30- to 45-day convalescent leave from the Navy. After his leave, he will report back to the Navy hospital in Pensacola, Fla., until his enlistment is completed in August.Sen. Jake Garn's office, R-Utah, and the rest of Utah's congressional delegation have been negotiating with the Navy to bring Lopez home during the recovery period. But military regulations required that he recover in a Navy hospital.

Four men and one women were killed and 19 were injured, when a fledgling pilot crashed into the tower during a landing attempt on the carrier of the USS Lexington off the Gulf of Mexico. Lopez suffered burns over 70 percent of his body.
