Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis was recently elected to the board of directors of the National League of Cities, the nation's oldest and largest organization representing municipal government.

DePaulis was elected at the organization's 66th Annual Congress held recently in Atlanta, according to a prepared release from the league.Board members meet up to four times yearly to review policy recommendations and to set priorities on legislative and regulatory issues affecting cities and towns, the release said.

Elected officials from the league's membership of more than 1,400 communities are elected to the board of directors through a nominating process at the annual congress, the release said.

Candidates for the board are reviewed by a nominating committee, which draws up a slate of recommended appointments that goes to the full membership for a final vote.
