Five Utah 4-H club members have been awarded scholarships at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, which began Saturday and continues through Wednesday.

The 68th National 4-H Congress assembles more than 1,600 of the nation's best 4-Hers to compete for nearly $300,000 in scholarships and awards.

The Utah winners received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 for excellence in their individual 4-H projects.They are Melanie Webb, Orem, in entomology; Heidi Ward, Heber City, in citizenship; Joy Park, Hanna, in leadership; Christopher Woodbrey, Petersboro, Cache County, in safety and Evan Fillmore, Huntington, in petroleum power.

Scott McKendrick, state 4-H leader at Utah State University, said just being selected to attend 4-H Congress represents the highest level of achievement in each of the 4-H project areas these youth have been working on for five or more years.
