Beverly Evans, Altamont, Duchesne County, who represents District 55 in the Utah Legislature, received the 4-H Alumni Award at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago Dec. 3. Evans is one of only eight 4-H alumni nationally to receive the Gold Key Award.

In addition to her legislative duties, Evans is the assistant administrator for the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center.According to Becky Mitchell, assistant state 4-H leader at Utah State University, Evans has been an active volunteer for Utah 4-H for 12 years.

As a youth she was an active 4-H member in Minidonka and Fremont counties in Idaho.

Evans said her experience at the National 4-H Salute to Excellence program two years ago gave her the confidence she needed to run for her district seat in the legislature.

"Two years ago I ran against eight men for the seat and won. It was through the influence of the 4-H program that I have continued to grow both professionally and personally," she said.
