The dredge Potter works to keep the main channel of the Mississippi River open and barges moving near Merchants Bridge between St. Louis and Cairo, Ill. The river was measured by the U.S. Corps of Engineers at minus 4 feet Wednesday, a record low for the date. The corps has four other dredges working in the St. Louis District to help keep the channel open.
