Singer Kenny Rogers says his six-year separation from his son, Kenny Jr., "was detrimental to him, and I think equally detrimental to me."

For six years, starting when Kenny Jr. was 12, the pair didn't meet or talk, according to an interview in the Dec. 8-10 issue of USA Weekend. The estrangement began after Rogers and his third wife, Margo, had what he calls a "volatile breakup."Over the past six years, father and son have tried to patch up their relationship.

They will act out a relationship not unlike the one they have in real life in a one-hour television drama, "Christmas in America," scheduled to air Wednesday on NBC at 7 p.m. MST. Kenny Sr. plays an ambitious photographer who is reconciled with his son, Kenny Jr., after a period of estrangement.
