At least one resident is so worried about safety in a local canyon that he has volunteered his time to widen a road there.
Heber Memmott wants the road between the junction and Bear Canyon Campground in Salt Creek Canyon widened for safety. The retired construction worker told Juab County commissioners this week he would be willing to work the necessary heavy equipment to ensure the road is safe.
A narrow bridge on the roadway needs to be replaced "in the worst way," said Memmott.
Last summer Forest Service workers did remove some of the vegetation at the roadside. Commissioners said the cost of building a new road is prohibitive, but Memmott suggested a partnership agreement with Juab County and the Forest Service, with volunteer work done by local residents, might make it possible.
Since the Forest Service has suggested developing a master plan of the Salt Creek Canyon forest area, commissioners decided to examine that plan.
