Funeral for Hyrum B. Hunsaker, 84, a longtime Utah State University physical education instructor and former athletic director, will be today at 11 a.m. in the Logan 4th Ward Chapel, First East and Third North. He died Feb. 8, 1989.
Friends may call at the ward chapel one hour before the service.For 72 consecutive years, Mr. Hunsaker was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and had received the prestigious Silver Antelope and Silver Beaver awards.
As an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, Mr. Hunsaker was instrumental in the creation of the Willard Bay Recreation area and served as an adviser on state recreation boards.
Among other honors, Mr. Hunsaker was elected to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Athletic Directors Hall of Fame and received the Utah Distinguished Service Award, the USU Alumni Distinguished Service Award and the Nation Physical Education Honor Award.
A plaque dedicated to Mr. Hunsaker was placed at USU's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building. He served as national president of the Delta Kappa Phi fraternity and president of the Cache County Chamber of Commerce, the Cache County Tourist Committee and the Logan Rotary Club.
