Utah's Kenna Bailey and her pairs partner John Denton turned in their best finish to date at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
They placed fifth in their original program and sixth in the freestyle ending up sixth overall.Bailey and Denton skated well, but Bailey fell as she attempted a jump. Bailey, from Centerville, has been training in Los Angeles with Denton. This was their first appearance in the seniors division. They were last year's junior champions.
First was Kristi Yamaguchi and Rudi Val Galindo of St. Moritz Ice Skating Club of California. Yamaguchi is also in second place in ladies singles.
Pre-meet favorites Kim and Wayne Seybold, in their seventh nationals as seniors, fell apart. Kim fell on a throw-triple salchow and throw-triple loop, did a single axel instead of a double and a single flip rather than a double in side-by-side moves. They still finished second, ahead of Kathryn Jane Keeley and Joseph Mero.
