The Valley Center Playhouse will present "Petticoats and Pettifoggers" at 8 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Monday through March 20. Tickets are $4 for adults $3 for senior citizens, students and children or $15 for a family pass.
"Petticoats and Pettifoggers," or "How Wyoming Women Won the Vote," is a suffrage musical comedy by Buddy Youngreen and James Prigmore, based on the life and times of Esther Morris.Youngreen wrote the production in 1969 for presentation at the Diamond Lil' Theatre in Jackson, Wyo. It commemorated the 100th anniversary of woman suffrage in the Wyoming Territory. It was also the 1970 premier production of the Sundance Summer Theater.
The play focuses on the significant contribution of Esther Hobart Morris, proponent of the legislative act in 1869 that gave distinction to the territory of Wyoming as the first government in the world to grant women equal rights.
