Kerry Romesburg, president of Utah Valley Community College, has discovered a way to rise above the hubbub. The academic heavyweight was lighter than air once he stepped into the basket of a hot-air balloon. The balloon demonstration was only part of the college's second annual open house that drew about 2,500 students and community members. The collision repair department displayed a 1952 Muntz once owned by Clark Gable. The fashion merchandising department sponsored live "mannequin" modeling, and the college's refrigeration and air conditioning department provided ice cream. UVCC officials planned the open house to show the community and future students what UVCC has to offer. The college has an enrollment of nearly 7,000 students, a number that has doubled in the last five years. Students choose from about 40 programs, ranging from accounting to welding.
