Why are prophet's necessary? How can we discern prophets? Why do we need prophecy?

These questions and many more are answered in Prophets and Prophecy. In the first section of the book, the author, an associate professor of ancient scripture at BYU, instructs the reader on the need for prophets, how they're called, Israel's expectations for the return of prophets, and how they can be identified. It also provides insight into the revelations and instructions that prophets receive.

By receiving the Holy Ghost, a person gains the right to receive revelation. "To join the Church is but to enroll in the school of the prophets," McConkie writes.

The second section of McConkie's book examines the need for prophecy, how prophecy is received, the prophecies of additional scripture, and the ways to discern prophecy. - KS
