A man was jailed Saturday after a fight at an early morning party left a Salt Lake resident dead of a stab wound.

Jeremy Vigil, 325 Argyle Court, was stabbed in the upper thigh after a fight erupted outside a party at 1497 W. Fourth South about 1 a.m., according to information released by Salt Lake police detective Sgt. Chuck Cockayne.Cockayne said it appears a friend of Vigil's tried to drive him to the hospital, but Vigil died en route. The official cause of Vigil's death is being investigated by the state medical examiner's office, the release said.

Police Saturday were withholding the name of the man booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Detectives are also questioning others about the incident.
