A six-member songleader squad from American Fork High School participated in a national competition and came away with two awards.
The group was in Orlando, Fla., last week for the National High School Dance Team Championship along with 66 other groups from across the country. The squad earned fourth place in the prop division and eleventh place in the jazz division. The teams were judged on appearance, choreography, technique, synchronization and overall effect, said adviser Pam Beckstrand.
"While they were in Florida, all six girls were asked to audition for the National Dance Team staff," she said. "If they're selected they would be dance instructors at summer camps across the United States."
This is the third consecutive year the American Fork squad has gone to the national competition. The girls have won second- and third-place awards in the past.
Beckstrand said the group qualified to go to Florida by earning superior ratings at a state camp last summer.
