An appeals court has thrown out a key portion of a $12 million lawsuit against Boston Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs, ruling his former girlfriend can't sue him for emotional distress, Boggs' attorney said Sunday. The 4th District Court of Appeal ruling means Margo Adams can't seek the $11.5 million in pain her attorney contended Boggs caused her by allegedly accusing her of extortion in an FBI interview, said attorney Jennifer King. The appeals court left intact the portion of the lawsuit in which Adams seeks $500,000 for loss of income and expenses she alleges Boggs promised her but never delivered in the four years she traveled with him on road trips.
