Guard Bobby Hansen will dress for the Jazz's game against New Jersey in the Salt Palace tonight, but is unlikely to play until after the All-Star break.
Hansen was activated from the injured list after being cleared to play by Dr. Wirt Hines, who performed plastic surgery on Hansen's fractured cheekbone Jan. 4. Dr. Hines' original complete-recovery forecast was five weeks; Hansen started no-contact workouts after two weeks and has stayed in shape by running and riding an exercise bicycle. "I'm ready to get back in and finish strong," said Hansen.Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan wanted Hansen to make this weekend's trip to Denver and Phoenix to begin his re-entry, but will probably not play him until he's practiced - and the Jazz's only practice before the All-Star break is Wednesday. The first game after the break is Feb. 14 at home against Denver.
"He needs to be involved in a practice situation before he's thrown into it," said trainer Don Sparks. Hansen's activation gives the Jazz a full 12-man roster.
Hansen has played only nine games this season, having broken his hand in an Oct. 22 exhibition game and being hurt again Jan. 1 in the publicized incident with former teammate Bart Kofoed. Kurt Kragthorpe
