The recommended sentence of convicted child molester Kevin Miller has been reduced by a judge in part because of a letter from Lund's mother - an officer in Society's League Against Molesters.

"Your family has saved you five years in prison," 2nd District Judge Stanton M. Taylor told Lund before sentencing. The state parole department had recommended Lund be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, but Taylor instead imposed a term of 10 years to life during a Monday hearing.

Lund, 34, of Ogden, pleaded guilty in January to two counts of sodomy on a child and one charge of forcible sexual abuse of a child. The incidents occurred in 1987 and involved a 12-year-old boy and teenage boy.

Lund is the son of Katherine Lund, a volunteer in SLAM, which has advocated harsh punishment for child sexual abusers.

Taylor said letters from Lund's family and a defense attorney's arguments persuaded him to sentence Lund to 10 years to life on the sodomy charges and one to 15 years, to be served concurrently, on the forcible sexual abuse charge.
