An April 7 arraignment is scheduled for a Salt Lake man charged in the stabbing death of Jeremy P. Vigil, 20, during a fight at a Feb. 25 party.

During a preliminary hearing Monday, Judge Floyd H. Gowans said enough evidence exists to bind over Michael Leon Jensen, 23, for trial on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault."There is probable cause to believe that you had a knife in your hand before the stabbing," Gowans said. "(Witnesses) have you with the knife before it occurs, during part of the occurrence and finally after it's all over."

Defense lawyers unsuccessfully asked that Jensen be tried on a lesser charge of manslaughter because witnesses said during the fight he had been hit in the head "hard enough to break a bat" and the alleged stabbing may have resulted from emotional distress.

The arraignment will be held before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson, April 7 at 8 a.m.
