The funeral for Hope S. Bettilyon, endower and designer of the Hope Chapel in the University of Utah Medical Center, will be April 12 at noon in the Mountain View 2nd Ward Chapel.
Mrs. Bettilyon died April 7 after a long illness.Her life was marked by service. She worked as a hospital volunteer for over 20 years. She organized the Volunteer Auxiliary for the Medical Center in 1968. While volunteering at the hospital, she recognized a need for a chapel where families could pray or talk to doctors. She and her husband, B. Lue Bettilyon, endowed, designed and furnished the chapel that bears her name.
She was named Woman of the Year by the Deseret News in 1956. She received the 1975 Humanitarian Award for the U. of U. College of Medicine Alumni Association in 1975. She served as vice president and president of the Salt Lake Council of Women. She was elected to the council's Hall of Fame in 1983.
Mrs. Bettilyon was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. She was chapter president of the Utah Home Builders Women's Auxiliary in 1949 and later served as the U.S. president of that organization.
