Two of the greatest names in tennis will make an appearance in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. The world's No. 1-ranked player, Ivan Lendl, will play the world's No. 5 player, Jimmy Connors, in an exhibition.

The event will be in the University of Utah's Huntsman Center starting at 7 p.m. The schedule is for Canyon Racquet Club pro Peter Mallet to play a pro set against Drew Sweet of the Hamilton Racquet Club, followed by Lendl/Connors, and ending with a celebrity match with Utah Jazz players.Lendl and Connors will play the best of a three-set match.

Lendl is, of course, the ruling tennis player in the men's ranks. He has been ranked No. 1 in the world for the past four years. Originally from Czechoslovakia, he now lives in Greenwich, Conn.

Connors is currently ranked No. 5 and will be making a return appearance in the Utah complex. Connors played in the Huntsman Center in the early 1970s.

After the event, the tennis rackets of both pro players will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to The Children's Center.

It will be the third such match in recent years. Three years ago, John McEnroe played stand-in Yannick Noah in the Salt Palace, and last year Chris Evert met Martina Navratilova at the Huntsman Center.

Tickets for the event are available at the Huntsman Center, the Salt Palace and all Smith's Tix locations.
