After the New York Knicks lost eight of 14 games, guard Gerald Wilkins decided it was a good time to take Coach Rick Pitino's advice.

"We had been getting killed off the boards lately, the guards haven't been getting in," said Wilkins, whose previous best was 10 rebounds. "The coach said, `The guards haven't been rebounding and playing defense, and if they don't, they're sitting down.'"And I can't take that risk."

Wilkins was in little jeopardy of sitting down Sunday. He scored 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to help the Knicks to a 94-92 victory, snapping the Washington Bullets' 15-game home winning streak and five-game overall winning streak.

The loss left the Bullets 1 1/2 games behind Boston for the last playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with seven games left. The Knicks are within one victory or one Philadelphia defeat of clinching their first Atlantic Division title since 1970-71.
