Computer Associates Inc., based in Princeton, N.J., has donated a state-of-the-art data base software system to Brigham Young University.
The system, with a market value of $725,000, will provide experience with advanced data base development to students in the computer science department and in the information management department, BYU officials said.BYU is among a select few universities to have received a Computer Associates educational software grant, said computer science professor Gordon E. Stokes.
Bob Gordon, a spokesman for Computer Associates, said BYU was selected because of its nationally recognized computer science program and because of a history of cooperation between the company's data base groups and the university's staff.
